Teenager’s Body Discovered in Merced River, Matches Missing Person’s Description

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. — In a tragic development, search and rescue teams recovered a body from the Merced River on Sunday afternoon that is believed to be that of a missing teenager. Authorities have yet to formally identify the remains but confirmed the body’s description aligns with that of Jagdeep Singh Riar, who had been reported missing.

The grim discovery was made approximately one mile downstream from Hagaman Park at approximately 4:15 p.m. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is currently awaiting official identification which they expect to obtain in the coming days.

The Sheriff’s office relayed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with his family. We know it has not been an easy week, however, we hope to provide closure to the family soon.” The matter is ongoing, and any updates regarding the identification and investigation will be communicated in due course as officials continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
