Suspected Gang Members Spark High-Speed Chase in Sacramento

Car accident in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif — A high-speed pursuit led by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office ended in a violent crash involving teen gang members on Tuesday afternoon. According to authorities, the chase commenced at approximately 3:30 p.m. following an attempted vehicle stop for an equipment violation in South Sacramento near Broadway and 37th Street.

Sheriff’s office spokesperson Sgt. Amar Gandhi stated that when gang detectives attempted to perform the enforcement stop, the vehicle in question fled, initiating a chase that spanned South Sacramento and veered onto local freeways. The pursuit lasted between five to ten minutes, culminating in a catastrophic collision near Fifth Street and X Street.

The fleeing vehicle had previously collided with two other cars before it finally wrecked, resulting in both a car fire and a brush fire that interrupted freeway traffic. Upon crashing, the teen suspects—confirmed to be gang members—attempted to escape on foot by leaping from the freeway embankment, a height of 15 to 20 feet. Law enforcement officers were able to capture and detain both juveniles shortly thereafter.

Highlighting the nature of the incident, Gandhi remarked on the previous criminal activity of the suspects, noting that one had been apprehended two months prior for a similar offense.
