An extensive search is underway following the disappearance of a rafter on the American River near Rancho Cordova, a suburban city in Sacramento County, California. The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon when a man, partaking in a rafting excursion with a group, vanished in the vicinity of Clay Banks, a stretch of the river situated between Ambassador Park and the Riverside Picnic Area.
Officials from the Sacramento Metro Fire Department have disclosed that the missing individual was not using a life jacket at the time he was overtaken by the water and subsequently did not resurface. Despite ongoing efforts utilizing boats and drones for over two hours beginning before 2:30 p.m., there has been no success in locating the man.
The operation has since transitioned to a recovery mission, signifying a grim outlook on the possibility of rescue. Support has been summoned from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office dive team as well as the Sacramento Drowning Accident Rescue Team. These specialized units are standing by to commence underwater search and recovery operations once conditions are deemed safe for divers.
