In Sacramento, California, a significant traffic incident involving a single vehicle and a power pole resulted in at least one person trapped and a substantial outage affecting over two hundred customers on Saturday night, per the Sacramento Fire Department.
The crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. along the 8700 block of Fruitridge Road, with immediate reports stating that the vehicle had collided with a power pole. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Sacramento Police Department.
Emergency responders faced challenges in reaching the individual trapped inside the vehicle due to the presence of live transformers and the potential crush hazard. Eventually, the entrapped person was extracted from the wreckage and transported to a hospital. Reports from the Sacramento Police Department indicate the individual sustained minor injuries. However, fire officials have classified the individual’s condition as critical.
The aftermath of the collision also led to a power outage in the vicinity, which was managed by Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). Service was expected to be restored by approximately 11:15 p.m. according to SMUD’s outage maps.
Road closures were implemented following the collision, with traffic being reduced to one lane as a part of the ongoing investigation. Local authorities coordinated efforts to manage the scene and work towards clearing the area and restoring normalcy for the affected residents and commuters.
