SACRAMENTO, CA (June 10, 2024) – A man was arrested in Sacramento following a fatal pedestrian accident at the intersection of 16th and V Street that occurred early Friday morning.
Authorities were called to the scene around 1:00 a.m., adjacent to Uptown Alley, where they found a male pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. The vehicle did not remain at the scene and the driver did not provide any assistance or contact emergency services.
Later in the evening, officers tracked down the suspect. The arrest occurred in the 2300 block of Broadway, where 41-year-old Joe Earl Johnson was taken into custody. He faces charges for a felony hit-and-run and was booked into Sacramento County Jail.
The victim, a 32-year-old man, was urgently taken to a hospital and succumbed to his injuries on Monday. His identity is withheld pending official release from the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
The Sacramento Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding the accident and have directed witnesses to reach out to Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
