FRESNO, CA (May 6, 2024) — In a tragic event late Friday night, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident on First Street near Santa Ana Avenue. According to the Fresno Police Department, officers attempted to pull over a vehicle in Northeast Fresno for undisclosed reasons. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield, leading to a short-lived pursuit.
The chase was terminated by the police, but the vehicle in question continued onto Santa Ana Avenue at high speed, lost control, jumped the curb, and collided with two pedestrians. The impact of the crash led to one individual sustaining critical injuries and the eventual death of another.
Further reports indicate that the vehicle crashed between a pole and a tree in a parking lot adjacent to Fashion Field Mall. The occupants fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
