SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In Sacramento County, a grave car collision on Interstate 80 led to a man being injured and a young girl being hospitalized in critical condition. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon on the southbound side of Business I-80 near Watt Avenue around 2:30 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol stated that the man, believed to be in his 30s, veered off the road and collided with a pole. Following the impact, the vehicle was engulfed in flames but responding units from Sacramento Metro Fire successfully extinguished the fire shortly after.
The young girl, who is said to be under 10 years old, along with the male driver, were promptly transported to a nearby hospital. As of now, the man’s medical state following the accident remains undisclosed. Meanwhile, updates on the child’s condition have not been provided since she was initially declared in critical status.
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the sequence of events that led to the crash. At this juncture, it has not been determined whether impairment from drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor. Moreover, there is yet to be confirmation regarding the use and appropriateness of child safety restraint systems at the time of the accident.
