Car Crash at Sacramento Temple Results in Injuries and Driver’s Arrest

Car accident in Sacramento

In Sacramento, a collision at the Sacramento Hindu Temple resulted in one injury and led to the arrest of the involved driver on hit-and-run charges. The incident occurred on a Saturday morning when a vehicle collided with the temple’s structure in the 7000 block of La Mancha Way.

Emergency services, including police and firefighters, arrived on the scene around 11:30 a.m., where they found significant damage inflicted on the temple’s exterior wall by the vehicle. Amid the chaos, debris fell on an individual inside the temple, causing non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was promptly transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The 31-year-old driver of the vehicle, Jermerl Smith, reportedly tried to escape the scene but was apprehended shortly afterwards by Sacramento police officers. Smith is now facing charges for the felony hit and run.

Authorities are treating the incident primarily as an accident but noted that high speed appears to have played a role in the collision. Investigations into the precise cause of the crash are ongoing as police examine evidence and witness statements from the site.

The Sacramento Fire Department reported the crash on social media, detailing the serious structural damage to the temple and confirming the hospitalization of one person from inside the building. The temple’s regular operations have been disrupted due to the extensive damage and ongoing investigation.
