In Rancho Cordova, the search concluded on Sunday for a man who went missing after a rafting incident on the American River near Sacramento. The individual had been part of a larger group navigating the river when he disappeared beneath the waters on Saturday. Authorities were alerted to the situation at the Clay Banks area, situated downstream from Ambassador Park and upstream from the Riverside Picnic Area.
The Sacramento Metro Fire Department led the recovery efforts after the man, who had not been equipped with a life jacket, was reported to have submerged and failed to resurface. Despite extensive use of boats and drones during the initial search on Saturday, responders were unsuccessful in locating him.
The search intensified with the deployment of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office’s dive team as well as the Sacramento Drowning Accident Rescue Team. The collaborative efforts of these specialized teams eventually led to the discovery of the man’s body on the following day.
Officials have yet to release the identity of the deceased as they are in the process of notifying his next of kin. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the inherent risks associated with water activities and the critical importance of safety precautions, such waving a life jacket while on the river.
