In a tragic unfolding of events in Stockton, California, the search for a missing teenager ended in despair when a body was recovered from the Calaveras River on Tuesday. The teenager, presumed to be Xavier Martinez, had been missing since he was reportedly involved in a fight at Stagg High School, which led to him and another student jumping into the river.
The discovery was made by an independent diver participating in the search operation. While authorities have yet to formally identify the body, officials from the Stockton Unified School District have been in contact with Martinez’s family regarding the retrieval from the river.
The incident began on Wednesday afternoon soon after an altercation on the Stagg High School campus. It escalated to the point where two teenagers, including Martinez, fled the scene of the skirmish by running into the nearby water. Witnesses saw one of the individuals resurface, while Martinez remained unaccounted for, prompting an extensive search operation.
Rescue efforts intensified with volunteers from the Sacramento Drowning Accident Rescue Team (DART) assisting from Sunday. The student’s mother, Amanda Martinez, expressed heartfelt concern during the search, clinging to hope for her son’s safe return or at the very least, a call from someone who might have seen him after the fateful incident.
