In a tragic event, two individuals lost their lives in an early morning collision on Saturday in the Commerce area near Los Angeles. The incident took place just before 7 a.m. at the Slauson Avenue off-ramp of the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials.
The fatal accident involved a tan sedan, which was stopped on the right shoulder of the off-ramp. Proceedings at the scene led the CHP to call for two tow trucks, suggesting the involvement of multiple vehicles, which are now part of an ongoing investigation as potential evidence.
At the scene, a man and a woman were pronounced dead. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office has identified one of the deceased as 21-year-old Luke Garcia. Details regarding the identity of the female victim have not yet been disclosed.
Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene at approximately 7:44 a.m. However, no individuals were transported to the hospital, according to a dispatcher from the fire department.
A traffic advisory, known as a Sigalert, was activated at 8:08 a.m., closing the Slauson Avenue on-ramp to the southbound freeway to accommodate emergency services and investigation teams. The Sigalert was lifted at 12:34 p.m., signaling the reopening of the ramp to traffic.
