COMMERCE, CA — A tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning in Commerce when a man and a woman were fatally injured in a vehicular collision.
The incident took place just before 7:00 a.m. at the Slauson Avenue off-ramp of the Southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Details from the CHP indicate the collision involved a tan sedan that had been stationary on the freeway’s right shoulder near the off-ramp. With the subsequent ordering of two tow trucks to remove vehicles from the scene for evidence, it is implied that multiple vehicles played a part in the incident.
At the scene, both the man and woman were found deceased. Officials later revealed the male victim to be 21-year-old Luke Garcia, as identified by the Medical Examiner’s office.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics were alerted and reached the crash site at 7:44 a.m. No survivors were transported to the hospital from the scene as per a dispatcher from the fire department.
As a result of the crash, a Sigalert was initiated at 8:08 a.m., causing the closure of the Slauson Avenue on-ramp leading to the southbound freeway. The closure remained in effect until the alert’s cancellation at 12:34 p.m. That day, according to the CHP’s statement.
