In Culver City, during the early hours of Friday morning, a collision on the 405 Freeway resulted in two fatalities and prompted a closure of all northbound lanes, causing significant delays.
The California Highway Patrol reported the incident at approximately 2:15 a.m. near National Boulevard, with first responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department arriving to find multiple vehicles in flames.
Two individuals were declared deceased at the scene by the CHP, though their identities have not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
To accommodate emergency and investigative teams, a Sigalert was issued around 2:30 a.m., ceasing traffic flow through the area.
After extensive cleanup and preliminary investigations, the freeway was eventually reopened to traffic at about 7 a.m.
Authorities have yet to release details concerning the cause of the tragedy as they continue with their inquiries.
