In a tragic incident on Monday night in the Santa Clarita Valley, a horse was fatally injured following a collision with a sedan. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported the accident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m., near the junction of Iron Canyon and Sand Canyon roads, just east of Santa Clarita.
Local residents recounted the disturbing sounds of the crash and the screams of the female driver of the sedan. At the scene, the sedan displayed extensive damage to its front, including a missing front bumper and a shattered windshield.
Authorities at the site pronounced the horse dead. While it was confirmed that the horse had a saddle, it was initially unclear whether the animal had a rider at the time of the accident, or if it was without an escort.
The sedan’s driver, whose identity was not disclosed, was taken to a local hospital. Details regarding her condition were not made available following the incident.
