A devastating motor vehicle accident in Monterey Park has resulted in the loss of three lives and injuries to two others, including a 7-year-old child. The collision, involving a high-speed SUV, occurred early Friday morning, June 28, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Graves Avenue and Cecil Street.

The force of the impact caused the SUV to strike a tree and multiple parked vehicles before overturning. Tragically, one victim was ejected onto the roof of a nearby house. “During the investigation, one occupant was missing, so they started canvassing,” stated Monterey Park Police Capt. Bill Cuevas. “They found the (victim) on the roof of the house.”

The immediate area turned into a chaotic scene with first responders rushing to help the injured and secure the location. Three individuals were pronounced dead at the site of the crash, while the surviving victims, one being a young child, were rapidly transported to a local hospital. The current medical status of the injured parties has not been disclosed as of yet.

Local law enforcement officers, who were near the vicinity at the time of the accident, were quick to arrive at the scene. Preliminary police reports indicate that excessive speed likely played a significant role in the cause of the accident.
