In East Los Angeles early Monday morning, a series of distressing events unfolded, culminating in both a violent shooting and a consequential car crash involving law enforcement. The incident began with reports of multiple gunshots fired at around 12:40 a.m. in the 5700 block of East Whittier Boulevard in Commerce.
Shortly thereafter, three Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were injured when their patrol vehicles collided while responding to the emergency in the vicinity of Beverly and Atlantic boulevards. The severe impact sent one vehicle crashing into a utility pole while the second struck the wall of a nearby structure.
In the wake of the shootings, emergency medical teams transported two individuals from the initial scene in Commerce to local hospitals. Meanwhile, another victim of the gunfire was also taken for medical care from the subsequent incident location in East Los Angeles, as per the statement by Fire Department spokesperson Craig Little.
All three deputies involved in the traffic accident were promptly transferred to medical facilities for treatment. The law enforcement officers were split between two patrol cars at the time of the mishap—one housing a pair of deputies and the other occupied by a single deputy. The Sheriff’s Department, through Deputy Miesha McClendon, confirmed that the shootings from both locations were interconnected.
As of the latest reports, the specific medical conditions of the gunshot victims and the deputies who sustained injuries in the car crash have not been disclosed.
