In the late hours of the night, Camarillo was the site of a multi-vehicle collision that resulted in numerous injuries. The incident, which involved 11 vehicles, occurred around midnight and caused a significant interruption of traffic on the northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway near Camarillo Springs Road.
The crash sequence began with a wrong-way driver colliding head-on with another vehicle, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The aftermath saw an additional nine vehicles embroiled in the collision.
Luis Ocampo Cardoso, a 24-year-old Santa Barbara resident, has been identified as the driver of the 2008 Honda Civic at the heart of the incident. Following the initial impact, several other vehicles became entangled in the chaos.
Authorities are pointing to alcohol as a contributing factor in the crash. Consequently, Cardoso was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).
Following a several hours’ closure for investigation and cleanup, the freeway was eventually reopened. As investigations continue, the CHP has requested that anyone with relevant information contact the CHP’s Moorpark Office at the provided phone number. The public’s cooperation in this matter is of great importance to their ongoing efforts.
