Suspect Hijacks LAPD Patrol Car Leading to Officer Ejected in Downtown Chase

An early morning incident in downtown Los Angeles has left an LAPD officer injured and a suspect in custody following a cruiser theft that led to multiple collisions. The officer, involved in a security detail, was approached by the suspect at approximately 3:30 a.m. near 12th Street and Figueroa Street, authorities reported.

After the suspect commandeered the police vehicle with the officer still inside, a tumultuous sequence of events unfolded. During the ordeal, the officer was ejected from the cruiser and subsequently hospitalized with injuries described as non-life-threatening. She remains in stable condition.

The circumstances under which the officer was ejected are still under investigation, with LAPD Detective Bruce Borihanah stating that interviews and surveillance footage are being reviewed to ascertain the details of the incident.

Following the ejection of the officer, the suspect continued to flee in the stolen vehicle, colliding with two vans at Eighth Street and Figueroa Street, and subsequently striking a pole on 7th Street. Shortly after abandoning the vehicle, the suspect was apprehended on foot by the police. While his identity has not been disclosed, authorities are determining the charges he will face.

Witnesses in the vicinity were shaken by the incident, noting the suspect’s erratic behavior and suggesting possible substance influence.
