Suspect Arrested over Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision in Orange County

In a tragic incident on Tuesday in Orange, California, a suspected DUI driver was apprehended after being involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision and subsequently leading authorities on a brief chase.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on the 300 block of North Tustin Street, where a man was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity is yet to be revealed by officials.

Shortly after the crash, police identified a Scion sedan with extensive damage to the front, including a shattered windshield, near the intersection of Glassell Street and Katella Avenue. The driver fled from the police, sparking a pursuit that lasted approximately 1 mile, concluding at Tustin Street south of Adams Avenue.

The 31-year-old driver of the Scion was taken into custody on multiple charges, including suspicion of DUI, felony hit-and-run, evading arrest, and vehicular manslaughter. Authorities disclosed that the suspect had been convicted of DUI four times over the past decade.

The incident underscores the ongoing challenge of DUI-related offenses and the importance of strict enforcement to safeguard public safety on the roads. The Orange Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision and the subsequent pursuit.
