LOS ANGELES, CA (April 15, 2024) – An 18-year-old woman, Julie Welchance, was fatally injured in a pedestrian accident on the eastbound 101 Freeway near Mulholland Drive in the early hours of Sunday. The incident, which occurred at around 5:15 a.m., prompted authorities to close surrounding roads temporarily to manage the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at the location to find Welchance’s body on the roadway. At the time, the status of the driver involved in the collision was unknown. The county medical examiner later confirmed the identity of the deceased as Welchance, a resident of El Cajon.
As part of the immediate response to the crash, a SigAlert was issued at 5:35 a.m., closing all southbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway while emergency teams worked at the scene. The finer details pertaining to the crash, including whether the driver remained on site or the circumstances leading to the fatal event, have yet to be released to the public.
The Los Angeles County officials have not provided any further insight into the pedestrian crash as of this report. Additional information is expected to be shared as the investigation progresses.
