LANCASTER, CA (June 25, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred early Tuesday morning in Lancaster, leading to the death of a 30-year-old woman. Identified as Brittany Brown, the victim was struck by a sedan while walking along Avenue I in the designated bicycle lane around 2 a.m., near the intersection of 15th Street East.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that Ms. Brown died at the scene of the collision. Authorities are currently investigating the accident, with preliminary inquiries focusing on whether the driver was impaired or speeding at the time of the incident.
This pedestrian fatality is part of a disturbing trend in California, which has consistently reported the highest number of such incidents in the country. Official figures showed an increase from 1,020 pedestrian deaths in 2019 to 1,026 in 2020. Nationally, pedestrian fatalities have been rising sharply, with 6,590 deaths recorded in 2019 – the most in over three decades, as per the Governors Highway Safety Association.
The occurrence once again highlights the potential hazards pedestrians face on roadways, where factors such as road conditions, visibility, and lighting must be carefully considered to prevent such tragedies.
