A serious collision involving two large tractor-trailers resulted in the closure of multiple southbound lanes on the 5 Freeway in Granada Hills on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a vehicular fire near Roxford Street at around 12:20 p.m. One individual suffered critical injuries and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol, responders found one truck completely engulfed in flames, while the second sustained significant damage.
In the wake of the incident, officials issued a SigAlert approximately ten minutes later, predicting an eight-hour closure of the affected southbound freeway lanes to facilitate emergency operations and preliminary investigations.
While the collision’s specific cause is still being determined, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the sequence of events leading up to the accident.
