HESPERIA, Calif. — A tragic roll-over car accident claimed the life of Gerardo Cruz, a 54-year-old Los Angeles resident, on Monday, June 24, 2024. Authorities including the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station deputies and the San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel responded to the incident on E Avenue, just east of Peach Avenue, at 4:03 p.m.
The first responders discovered Mr. Cruz partially ejected from his gray 2001 Honda Accord. Despite the rapid response, Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s news release detailed that the Honda was moving eastward on E Avenue before veering off the south side of the road. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof within the grounds of a nearby residential estate.
Investigators are examining the cause of the accident, including whether impairment from drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor. However, these details have yet to be confirmed as the investigation continues. The accident led to an extended closure of E Avenue in the area as the Hesperia Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) conducted a thorough examination of the crash site.
