LA County Deputy Succumbs to Injuries Months Following Training Mishap

In a tragic update from Castaic in Los Angeles County, Sheriff’s deputy Alfredo “Freddy” Flores has succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident at the Pitchess Detention Center’s training range six months ago. On October 10, 2023, Flores was critically injured when equipment malfunctioned, triggering a fire and explosion that left him and another deputy in the hospital with severe injuries. Despite efforts to save him, Deputy Flores passed away this Saturday.

At the time of the accident, Flores and another law enforcement veteran were rushed in critical but stable condition to a medical facility in Valencia. The unfortunate event also resulted in minor injuries to two additional individuals. Flores, who served the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) with distinction for over 22 years, was highly regarded for his dedication to public service and his countless contributions to various departmental assignments.

The LASD expressed deep sorrow at the loss of Deputy Flores, a valued member who served various assignments throughout his tenure, including the North County Correctional Facility, Altadena Station, and Court Services West Bureau. His colleagues and community members held him in high esteem, and his absence is felt deeply as a profound loss to many.

An official statement released by the family reflected on the life and service of Deputy Flores. They described him as a loving husband, father, son, and brother, who lost his life in a devastating and unforeseen tragedy.
