HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — A tragic incident occurred on Monday when a police vehicle was involved in a multi-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian at the intersection of Gower Street and Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood. The accident, which took place around 4 p.m. on April 29, 2024, also left six individuals with minor injuries.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the officers in the police cruiser were attempting to navigate through the northbound lanes of Gower Street by sounding their horn to clear the intersection. During this maneuver, there was a collision involving a white Mercedes and another car that was westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard. The impact caused the police vehicle to spin out of control, hitting the pedestrian, the Mercedes, and potentially another vehicle.
The pedestrian was subsequently pinned beneath the police cruiser and was critically injured. Emergency response teams from the Los Angeles Fire Department were dispatched to the scene, where they managed to extricate the individual. The victim was rushed to a local hospital for immediate medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to the injuries sustained in the collision.
