LOS ANGELES, CA (April 12, 2024) — In downtown Los Angeles, an individual was taken into custody following a hit-and-run collision involving a police officer. The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Bickett Street and 54th Street.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that the suspect, driving a transit van, struck a sheriff’s patrol car for undisclosed reasons. The collision might have resulted in injuries to the deputy involved. After the accident, the driver fled the scene and was pursued by law enforcement across the 5 South Freeway and the surface streets at Garfield and Gage avenues.
The pursuit ended approximately ten minutes later when the suspect parked the van in a business lot at Bickett and 54th streets and ran into a nearby building. The deputies made a swift arrest following the suspect into the building.
