Head-on Collision on State Route 118 Results in Injuries

Car accident in Los Angeles

MOORPARK, Calif. — A fatal four-vehicle collision on State Route 118 west of Balcom Canyon Road, between Moorpark and Somis, claimed the life of 43-year-old Cristobal Sanchez-Perez of Los Angeles. The tragic incident took place on the afternoon of May 2nd, and the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office has since identified the deceased.

Reports from the California Highway Patrol indicate that the accident occurred at approximately 3:17 p.m., involving a black Honda Civic, a Toyota Highlander SUV, a white Ford Transit-250 van, and a black Ford Raptor pickup truck. Preliminary investigations suggest that traffic was decelerating at the time of the crash. The Honda and Ford Raptor had appropriately moderated their speeds, but the driver of the Ford van failed to decelerate in time.

As a result, the van collided with the rear-left side of the Honda, pushing it into the Ford Raptor. The impact sent the Ford van into the opposing lane, where it struck the Toyota Highlander head-on. Local news outlet Ventura County Star provided these details of the accident’s dynamics.

First responders from the Ventura County Fire Department rushed to the scene, where they discovered three individuals trapped within the Highlander and one more in another vehicle, requiring extrication. Sanchez-Perez, the driver of the Highlander, succumbed to his injuries on-site.
