In the early hours of the morning on the 91 Freeway, near Bellflower, a severe collision occurred involving a pickup truck and a big rig. Officials reported that the incident took place approximately at 6 a.m. when the semi-truck was believed to have stalled in the eastbound traffic lanes, just west of the 605 Freeway interchange.
Following the stall, the driver of a black pickup did not manage to avoid the semi-trailer and collided with it, causing the pickup to ignite. The force of the impact pushed the cab of the pickup partially underneath the trailer of the big rig.
Emergency services were immediately alerted to the scenario and the highway was subject to a SigAlert while rescue operations were underway. Responders were able to extract the driver of the pickup and facilitate their transfer to a medical facility at 6:30 a.m. Details on the driver’s condition were not disclosed at the time of the report.
