LOS ANGELES, CA (April 15, 2024) — A tragic vehicle collision on Figueroa Street near 58th Street in the South Los Angeles area claimed the life of 22-year-old Maria Jarmaillo-Silva on a Thursday night at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The accident occurred at the 5200 block of South Figueroa Street within the Vermont Square neighborhood. Reports from the Los Angeles Fire Department indicate that two vehicles collided under circumstances that have not been made clear. Emergency responders from the police and fire department arrived at the scene. They used hydraulic tools to extract two individuals who were trapped. Despite their efforts, Ms. Jarmaillo-Silva succumbed to fatal injuries.
Additionally, a 5-year-old boy, identified as Ms. Jarmaillo-Silva’s son, was found with moderate injuries and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The boy’s 20-year-old father was also discovered in serious condition and received immediate medical attention at a hospital.
At this time, details regarding the cause of the crash or information about the second driver involved have not been disclosed by traffic investigators. Authorities are urging anyone with information relevant to the accident to contact the Los Angeles Police Department as the investigation continues.
