East Los Angeles, CA (May 8, 2024) — In a fatal incident late on Tuesday night, a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a pedestrian in East Los Angeles. The crash took place at the junction of Atlantic Blvd and Olympic Blvd shortly before 11 p.m., with California Highway Patrol officials responding to the scene.
The suspect’s vehicle, a red Toyota Celica, was later found with damage at the Commerce Casino and Hotel, not far from where the accident happened. The perpetrator was eventually apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Larchmont area after evading the police initially. The arrest was made at around 1:10 a.m., following evidence obtained from a video-recorded field sobriety test.
As of now, the identities of the deceased pedestrian and the arrested suspect are being withheld. Law enforcement is finalizing the charges as they continue with their investigation into the tragic event.
