LOS ANGELES, CA (June 18, 2024) – A tragic incident in the Dockweiler State Beach area claimed the life of a young child on Saturday evening. 2-year-old Merida Castillo was fatally struck by a vehicle at the 12200 block of Vista Del Mar at approximately 5:45 p.m.
The accident occurred when the driver of an RV, reversing out of a private property within the beach’s campground area, collided with the toddler. Emergency response teams attempted life-saving measures, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner identified the victim the following day as Merida Castillo. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the RV was related to the child, though the specifics of their relationship have not been disclosed by authorities.
