Fatal Hit-and-Run in Boyle Heights Claims Life of Jose Dorado

BOYLE HEIGHTS, CA – A tragic hit-and-run collision claimed the life of a 77-year-old man in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, on the evening of April 16. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollenbeck Division responded to the incident at the crossroads of Mission Road and Plaza del Sol just after 8 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found Jose Dorado, the elderly victim, who had been fatally injured by a fleeing motorist at the intersection. The driver involved in the incident did not stop to offer assistance, and subsequently fled the scene, leaving no information regarding their identity or the vehicle involved.

The medical examiner’s office confirmed Jose Dorado’s identity and pronounced him deceased due to the injuries sustained in the crash. As of now, police have not released any further details about the driver, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Hit-and-run collisions have been on a worrying uptick across the United States, with an average annual increase of 7.2% in fatalities since 2009, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA). Such instances highlight the critical need for thorough investigations to establish negligence and ascertain contributing factors such as road conditions, signage, and lighting to seek justice for the victims.
