In a tragic turn of events in Los Angeles County, a deputy has succumbed to injuries sustained in a fire that broke out during a training exercise last October. The officer passed away following a months-long battle for recovery.
Deputy Alfredo “Freddy” Flores, the member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department grievously injured in the incident, was confirmed deceased by a family representative. Flores had served the community loyally as a husband, father, and public servant.
The catastrophic incident took place at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, situated within the North County Correctional Facility, on October 10, 2023. The cause of the blaze was identified as malfunctioning equipment during a training operation.
The family statement acknowledged that while the dangers of law enforcement are well-known, the unexpected death of Deputy Flores from exercise-related equipment failure has been a profound shock to his loved ones and colleagues.
