Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident Involving Cyclist in Arleta

In a tragic incident in Arleta, a Los Angeles neighborhood, a hit-and-run accident resulted in the death of a 44-year-old bicyclist. 19-year-old Daniel Antonio Garcia, from Panorama City, was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department on charges of felony hit-and-run causing death.

The incident that led to this arrest occurred on August 12th around 10:50 p.m. A black Infiniti sedan, driven by Garcia and speeding along Van Nuys Boulevard, attempted to overtake another vehicle west of Lev Avenue, near the 5 Freeway. During the maneuver, the car collided with the bicyclist, who was also traveling westward on Van Nuys Boulevard.

The impact was such that the bicyclist, David Rodriguez of Los Angeles, was ejected towards the northwest, ultimately hitting a parked vehicle and then landing on the sidewalk. Despite the rapid response of the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene.
